Strider is a robot that was built to commemorate the landing of Spirit and Opportunity, robotic exploration robots, on the surface of Mars. He was also built to test some suspension ideas that I had and to have a robot that I can take around to schools when I lecture to students and teachers.

We built him to also be a demonstration robot at the Mars Rover competition hosted by Starbot in Miami at the Miami Museum of Science on January 17th. He was built to conform to the specifications of the Mars Rover competition; 15" cube dimensional limit and 15 pounds.

Strider was built using only hand tools to show my students that it can be done without expensive machining equipment.

To learn more about him check out the build report on him.
