Steve recommends the following:

The Electric Motor Handbook (Currently out of print but used books are available)
by Robert J. Boucher

Bob Boucher's Electric Motor Handbook is the bible on electric motors. The 90 page handbook teaches you how electric motors work, how you can measure your motor's speed and torque constants, and how to properly time you motor for maximum performance. There is a chapter on how propellers work and a table of watts needed at various RPM for most model airplane propellers. Other chapters cover nicad batteries and electronic speed controls. Mechanical drawings and Speed Torque curves for all Astro airplane and boat motors.

Engineer to Win $17.47
by Carroll Smith

This book is considered to be essential to any robot builder's library.

This book can look a little daunting as you flick through the pages, however, once you begin to read it, you realise just how good it is! Starting with a basic metallurgy and physics course that most school text books should look to copy, Mr. Smith keeps interest in what could be a somewhat tedious subject using witty comments and practical observations. He then leads us through steel making, alloy processes and finally on to the application of all of the above in the racing car. A brilliant book from start to finish.

Performance Welding $13.97
by Richard, 1935 Finch, Peter Finch

Aside from little details, a very practical book. His coverage of aluminum brazing omitted the fact that it has been in use since before WW2, and on many military aircraft. His aluminum welding and brazing references tend to mix, and might create confusion in choosing fluxes and fillers. The dangerous cobalt blue lenses he mentions are 40 yrs old, and have been superceded by TM Technologies' TM2000 lenses 10 yrs ago.
