BoneSaw

Bonesaw is the latest robot creation by Team DaVinci. It is a lightweight robot sponsored by Whitley Home Medical. It is a horizontal bar spinner that spins a 36" S7 tool steel blade at around 3000 rpm to give a liner tip speed of approximately 320 mph. The blade is driven by six over-volted DeWalt motors to give an estimated power of 11 horse power on the weapon motor alone! And to top it all off the blade is less than three inches off the ground :-) The body of the robot is just over 2" thick with a little less than 1/4" ground clearance.

BoneSaw uses many exotic materials including, titanium, carbon fiber, UHMW, Lexan, S7 tool steel, and more.

Here is the weapon motor gearbox with the DeWalts attached. The gearbox casing is made from a solid block of Fortal Aluminum. Notice the spur gear in between the pair of motors. This is connected to the bevel gear to drive the blade.	Here is the designer of BoneSaw, Shaggy with the Klingon blade of death.	And a shot of the innards of BoneSaw. Notice the one bevel gear that was positioned for reference in this picture. Each pair of motors will have a driving bevel gear.
	Here is the blade sitting on one of the pieces of carbon fiber that will be used for the armor.
Mmmmmmm..... low blade.... drooool. The blade is tapered on the leading edge to decrease wind resistance and to slice into the opponent.	Size reference of the blade to the bot.
